CEI joined with their Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services partner at Exploration Place to welcome youth from across the state.

On September 28th, the Community Engagement Institute staff joined with their Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) partner at Exploration Place in Wichita to welcome youth from across the state. The youth and their supportive adults came together to celebrate the merits of Youth Leaders in Kansas (YLINK) groups. For some, the event was an acceptance of an invitation to learn about starting a YLINK chapter, and for others, it was a celebration of participating in YLINK as a successful group in their community.

YLINK groups are youth guided. The youth choose their purpose area, create a vision, mission, motto, and logo for a local identity, but assume the state-wide YLINK support and identity. This membership allows the groups access to join with other YLINK chapters at state-sponsored peer to peer youth events throughout the year where youth meet to learn, grow, and develop leadership skills and self-advocacy. CEI staff supported KDADS and the YLINK groups through efforts to survey and chat with the youth about their needs while enjoying some fun activities at Exploration Place.
